Residents Enjoy a Scenic Visit to the Farm, Connecting with Animals and Nature
At Old Sarum Manor Care Home, we believe in enriching our residents’ lives through engaging activities and memorable experiences. Recently, we had the pleasure of visiting Laverstock Community Farm, a charming local sanctuary run by dedicated volunteers.
Our journey began at 10 am, when a taxi arrived to take us on a short scenic trip to the farm. Residents, along with staff, enjoyed the lovely morning as we arrived ready for our farm adventure. Each resident received a bag of animal feed, eager to interact with the friendly animals awaiting us.
We started our visit exploring the bird enclosures, which housed a variety of chickens, bantams, silkies, and roosters. The colorful array of lovebirds, yellow-headed pheasants, and other bird species provided a captivating experience. One resident, who previously cared for birds at a rescue center, was especially touched to reconnect with her feathered friends, sharing a special moment with the birds.
Next, we took a scenic walk into the main farm area, where residents encountered rabbits, guinea pigs, and friendly guinea pigs. The highlight of the visit was meeting Stan, a large black boar, who quickly became a favorite among residents. We also had the opportunity to hand-feed goats, sheep, and alpacas, creating joyful and interactive moments.
The farm itself is freely accessible and beautifully maintained, with ample space for the animals to roam. It is run entirely by volunteers who ensure that all the animals are well cared for.
We concluded our visit at the farm’s cozy café, filled with homemade treats and delicious coffees. The residents returned to the care home with smiles on their faces, having enjoyed a day filled with nature, animals, and companionship.
This trip was a wonderful success, providing both enjoyment and meaningful engagement for our residents. We look forward to returning soon for another memorable visit.
