The residents at Old Sarum Manor have been keeping the cold winter at bay by getting busy with a series of fabulous arts and crafts projects in recent weeks.
Our activities team is very focused on bringing the outside in and so our residents have played their part in International Women’s Day, explored the four corners of the world and looked forward to the Spring ahead. Let’s take a look at what they’ve created…
Where in the World?
Back in February, Old Sarum’s Art Club took a trip to their holiday destinations. The Art Club members love to push the boundaries of their own creativity and so take a mix media approach, which means that they can express themselves freely. It leads to really outstanding and sometimes very emotive results as our residents explore their memories and happily chat as they work. We were able to enjoy images that featured nature, the great outdoors and particularly important buildings to our artists, such as a lighthouse perched on a rocky coastline.
Placemat Perfection
We don’t just do art for art’s sake – although we love to do it just for the freedom of self-expression! In our recent placemat workshop, our residents came together in our art room to craft placemats that will make the perfect place to set vases of flowers on in their own rooms. What made the exercise especially creative was that each resident could choose their own colour scheme and decorate it to suit their own tastes. What a beautiful finishing touch for their rooms.
Our Art Club really went with the flow and became very decorative. While a guide was put up to inspire them, they really got stuck into the task at hand and devised their own designs. A lot of fun was had by all and everyone was thrilled to take their floral placemats back to their rooms, ready for some fresh flowers.
International Women’s Day
Working collaboratively, our Art Clubbers came together to create something to mark International Women’s Day 2023. Taking place annually, and this year on 8 March, International Women’s Day is a global day that celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. At Old Sarum Manor, we were no exception.
The Art Club worked on creating a beautiful 3D floral headdress for our International Woman. Using small and intricate wooden flowers, and showing fabulous fine motor skills, our Art Club added colour to the flowers before placing them on a headdress. Springing forth with colour, our residents added the finishing touch of a floral necklace.
An Eggs-cellent Session
While the weather might still be a little on the wintry side, Easter is only a few weeks away. Our Art Club are ready, however, and they already have their Easter egg cups at the ready. Working with pre-made cups, our residents were able to add their own colour schemes to a blank canvas and they’ll be able to enjoy their morning boiled egg from their own cups. We then went on to make fabulously decorated eggs – just for fun!
Pop In for Our Pop Up
With so much outstanding work created, we run occasional Art Club pop ups galleries in our restaurant. We invite all of our residents to come along and enjoy the art; this can inspire some of then to join in with our Art Club. Families are also invited to join us for a viewing and see what our residents have been creating.
