There are some sounds that are synonymous with the Great British Summer. The whack of Wimbledon tennis on the television, the sizzle of a sausage on the barbecue and the fizz of lemonade as it hits the ice in a big jug of Pimm’s.
At Old Sarum Manor, we know just how to mark each new season – and summer is no exception. A gently relaxing long drink, our chef and their team prepare large jugs with the traditional additions of cucumber, orange, lemon and mint and topped up with lots of ice and chilled lemonade.
Pimm’s O’Clock is a big hit around the home and has proved to be the perfect solution to the hot summer days that Salisbury has been enjoying recently.
Summer at Old Sarum Manor
Summer is a very special time at Old Sarum Manor. Windows and doors are thrown open to let the scent of the summer from the garden flood the home. Our menus change to reflect the seasonal produce with strawberries and cream always a huge hit.
With Wimbledon a focal point of our summer sports enjoyment, the England / Australia Ashes series will also be a great chatting point. With Ascot and Henley always worth a watch, our days pass happily.
Boule’d Over
It’s not all about simply watching the sport on the television – although it does create a fantastic focus for storytelling and sharing histories of past summer events.
In the summer, our Old Sarum residents like to do things differently and try new things. Our recent game of French boule saw our community doing just this as our Salisbury home transformed into a little piece of France for our recent game.
Using heavy metal boule (balls) and trying to hit the small wooden jack, the game is very like traditional bowls but with smaller balls that are easier to hold in smaller hands. Giving our activities a French twist was a huge success and our residents are looking forward to regular repeat matches.
