What it’s like to celebrate the festive period in a Care Home
Christmas in a Care Home is one of the nicest times of the year. Sometimes people that have been living at home on their own, celebrate the few days over Christmas with their families. However, in an Elmfield Care Home, the celebrations start early and everyone gets involved in getting the home ready for the festivities.
Getting involved in the activities
When it comes to activities at Christmas, our Lifestyle Teams go above and beyond to make them as memorable and as special as possible. Starting with decorating the homes; residents love to get involved and be a part of the decorating process, from picking out tree decorations, hanging light and to making festive wreaths for their bedroom doors. Other activities include baking classes where they can join the fun in making mince pies, gingerbread houses or in Arts and Crafts where they can make beautiful Christmas cards to send to distant relatives.
Holding special events
This year, the Team will perform a pantomime in one of the homes, as well as numerous carol singers coming in, schools visiting to say hello, the Christmas lights being turned on, Christmas shopping, and Secret Santas.
We like to offer a variety of special events so that there is something for everyone, as well as do things for our employees, such as little festive competitions, to get them involved in the excitement. We also have annual Christmas parties at all of the homes.
Making the most of our communal spaces
The Cinema is always open for Christmas movies, the Tea room for hot chocolate in the afternoon with mince pies and Special Christmas Coffee Mornings! Residents can enjoy a mulled wine in the Sky Bar enjoying some festive tunes or even come down to the Coffee Bar and enjoy the live Carol Singers, our communal area are so versatile all year round.
Community Spirit
The homes have a tremendous sense of community, and the teams love dressing up in their Christmas jumpers. There are lots of lights and decorations, and everything is going on. It’s a great time in the home, and we look forward to New Year’s celebrations!
