Nostalgic Joy: A Vintage Summer Celebration at Nodens Care Home
On Saturday, we marked our second summer celebration since the opening of our purpose-built care home in April 2023. This year, our team organised the ‘Nodens Vintage Summer Party’ as a nostalgic event for our residents.
The day began with our staff helping everyone dress in their favourite outfits, followed by a leisurely morning with tea or coffee before the festivities began. At noon, we welcomed family and friends, and the sun shone brightly as we gathered in the courtyard to watch the catering team fire up the BBQ. Guests enjoyed a delicious spread, featuring juicy burgers, hot dogs topped with caramelised onions, and a variety of salads. Afterward, everyone indulged in sweet treats, including strawberries and cream, a special request from our residents. Josie, our visiting Pets as Therapy dog, arrived shortly after, bringing joy and cuddles to all.
Next, it was time to sing along as Donna from MusiCare entertained us with her Vintage Music Act. It was heartwarming to see residents join in, reminiscing about their favourite eras and songs. The musical afternoon culminated in a special ‘Happy Birthday’ serenade for Poppy, one of our cherished residents celebrating her 90th birthday. As Donna wrapped up her performance, our final surprise of the day arrived—an Ice Cream Van, because no summer party is complete without a Mr. Whippy. Many residents expressed their delight, with some saying, “I haven’t had an ice cream like this in so long, thank you for your kindness.”
