This week we were fortunate enough to experience some lovely weather which called for a trip to Lydney Park.
For our residents, going on regular walks outside has several advantages for their physical and mental wellbeing. The tranquility of the park, coupled with the peaceful atmosphere created by the chirping of birds and the gentle rustle of leaves, serves as a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
physical health benefits
One of the primary benefits of regular walks and other forms of exercise is the positive impact it has on our residents physical health. Physical exercise helps to maintain and improve strength, flexibility, and balance, which are especially important for older adults as they age. We like to encourage daily walking whether its around the home, in our gardens or out in the community.
Improving mental well-being
Regular walks offer significant improvements in mental well-being for elderly residents. The serine and beautiful surroundings of Lydney Park especially provide a sense of calm and tranquility, helping to reduce stress and anxiety levels. Being exposed to nature has been found to have a positive impact on mental health, increasing feelings of happiness, positivity, and self-esteem. Regular walks in Lydney Park also provide opportunities for social engagement and interaction, which plays a vital role in combating feelings of loneliness and isolation commonly experienced by the elderly. The chance to connect with nature and friends during walks can enhance their sense of belonging and purpose.
