Furry Friends Make a Welcome Return to Care Home
Alpacas visit Flowers Manor care home, bringing smiles and comfort to residents who requested something different. A cherished activity returns, proving the therapeutic power of animal interaction.
Following a popular visit last year, Flowers Manor care home welcomed two special visitors: alpacas. Residents had expressed a desire for unique activities, and the return of these gentle creatures proved to be a hit. The alpacas, known for their calm demeanor, were able to navigate the care home with ease, even utilizing the lifts to visit residents in their bedrooms.
Animal interaction has been shown to have numerous benefits for individuals, particularly in care settings. The presence of animals can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and provide a sense of comfort and companionship. Engaging with animals can also stimulate memory, encourage communication, and offer a sense of purpose and responsibility, even if only for a brief period. For residents at Flowers Manor, the opportunity to pet and interact with the alpacas offered a welcome change of pace and a chance to engage with something outside of their usual routine. The delight on the residents’ faces as they interacted with the soft, friendly alpacas was a testament to the positive impact of this unique visit. The care home plans to explore more such activities in the future to enrich the lives of their residents, recognizing the profound positive effect that these furry visitors can have on well-being.
