From seeds to jack-o-lanterns: The journey begins at Flowers Manor!
In a unique and exciting initiative, the gardening club here at Flowers Manor Care Home has taken the plunge and decided to grow their own pumpkins. Our residents, eager to get their hands dirty, gathered together this week to plant the seeds of what they hope will become a bounty of jack-o-lanterns in time for Halloween.
For many of the residents, this will be their first foray into growing pumpkins. In the past, they’ve had allotments where they’ve grown their own vegetables, but never have they attempted to cultivate these orange autumnal wonders. With beginners’ luck on their side, the group is optimistic about their chances of success.
“I’ve always loved pumpkins, and I think it will be fantastic to have our own home-grown ones around the home,” said one resident, excitedly. “Just imagine being able to carve them up and use them as decorations – it will be a real treat!”
The gardening club has been busy preparing the soil and planting the seeds, with staff members providing guidance and support along the way. As the weeks go by, the residents will tend to their pumpkins, nurturing them until they’re ready to be harvested.
The project is not only a fun and creative outlet for the residents but also provides an opportunity for socialisation and exercise. “It’s great to see our residents so engaged and enthusiastic about gardening,” said a member of staff. “It’s wonderful for their mental and physical well-being, and we can’t wait to see the fruits of their labor!”
With any luck, Flowers Manor Care Home will soon be aglow with an abundance of homegrown pumpkins, adding a personal touch to their Halloween celebrations. Watch this space for updates on the progress of their pumpkin patch!
