The residents can indulge in various interests during these outings, such as shopping for personal items, visiting the local museum to enrich their knowledge, and enjoying the peaceful ambience of the park while feeding ducks. The trips to town also provide a chance for the residents to socialise with each other and build connections with the wider community. For example, popping into the local pub for a favorite tipple allows the residents to unwind and engage in friendly conversations with the locals. Getting Together for Drinks: Sharing Childhood Memories
In an effort to strengthen the bond among the male residents, Gemma, our Deputy Manager, organised a get-together in the Sky Bar. The gathering aimed to provide the gentlemen with an avenue to socialise and get to know each other better. The main topic of conversation during the event was their childhood memories. This activity created an atmosphere of nostalgia, allowing residents to share stories from their youth and reminisce about their past. It not only facilitated meaningful connections among the residents but also promoted a sense of camaraderie and understanding. By fostering an environment where the residents feel comfortable sharing their personal experiences, Flowers Manor encourages emotional well-being and a sense of belonging among its residents.
Intergenerational Learning: Welcoming Children from a Local Nursery
During the intergenerational week, Flowers Manor took the opportunity to promote learning and connection by inviting children from a local nursery to spend an afternoon with the residents. Since the nursery children have been learning about careers, the residents and staff members volunteered to share their own career experiences. The residents spoke about the jobs they currently do at Flowers Manor, as well as the careers they pursued in the past. This exchange not only provided valuable insights into different professions but also allowed the children to interact with and learn from the older adults. Following the career discussions, the children were encouraged to share their aspirations and the fun jobs they would like to pursue when they grow up. This intergenerational activity fostered a sense of community, promoted empathy, and empowered the young children to dream big.
