Elmfield Care’s Salisbury residential care home, Old Sarum Manor, has been awarded ‘Good’ in its first Care Quality Commission (CQC) rating since the property opened in October 2020, in the height of the pandemic. CQC ratings are important, not only for the confidence of the residents, their families and potential residents, but also to all the Team and confirmation of the provision of care at all Elmfield properties and the high standards the Management sets for their care homes.
One comment from a relative to the CQC stands out, as they told the Inspector, “We need more homes like this”.
The CQC is England’s independent regulator of health and social care and monitors standards across health care services, such as care homes and hospitals, in-home care, doctors & GPs, dentists, clinics and community services.
CQC ratings are crucial to the care industry as they are an independent measure of standards across care as a whole. The CQC monitors, inspects and regulates services to ensure that they meet the core standards required. They also publish their findings which acts both as a guide for providers on what they do well and what they could do better, but also to help those choosing care to be able to make an informed opinion.
The CQC focuses on the fundamental standards of care and state that everyone who is in receipt of care has the right to expect the following:
- Person-centred care which is tailored to your needs and preferences
- Care and treatment that is administered with dignity and respect at all time, including a right to privacy and equality
- That consent has been given by the care recipient or their representative
- That care is administered safely and that safeguarding is in place at all times, in appropriate premises and with suitable equipment
- The right to complaint and good governance
- Appropriate numbers of suitably qualified, competent and experienced fit and proper staff
Care providers must also be open and transparent with those in care, or their representative, about care and treatment and they must also openly display their CQC rating, signpost it on their website and ensure the latest CQC report is available.
Chris Babington, Managing Director of Elmfield Care, said, “Old Sarum Manor’s ‘Good’ rating in our first Care Quality Commission since opening is a tribute to the team at Elmfield Care. Every inspection is important to a home but making sure that you are on track with a newly-opened property reinforces that fact that, not only are we ensuring that residents are happy and healthy in their new home but that we are hitting the high standards of care giving that the CQC set for us. Well done to the Management Team and all the Team at Old Sarum.”
