Care home staff, residents, and even the doctor unite to cycle 26 miles on an exercise bike in a fun, interactive event
Old Sarum Manor Care Home recently embarked on an exciting challenge to celebrate the 2026 London Marathon. The staff and residents took on a 26-mile cycling event, transforming the care home’s reception area into a makeshift marathon route.
The exercise bike was stationed in the reception for two days, becoming the centre of activity and excitement. The challenge was to complete the full 26 miles — the same distance as the marathon — within just one day. To make it more engaging, staff members, residents, and even the care home’s doctor joined in, each taking turns to pedal and contribute to the total distance.
The event was not only a test of endurance but also a wonderful opportunity for socialising and community bonding. The residents loved watching the progress and cheering on their friends and staff as they cycled tirelessly. The interactive nature of the activity brought plenty of smiles and laughter, creating a lively and uplifting atmosphere throughout the day.
In total, the team successfully smashed the 26-mile target in a single day, demonstrating incredible teamwork and determination. The event proved to be a fun and memorable experience for everyone involved, highlighting the importance of staying active and engaged at any age.
Old Sarum Manor plans to organise similar activities in the future to promote wellness and community spirit among its residents. The success of this challenge has shown that with a bit of enthusiasm and teamwork, even the most ambitious goals can be achieved in the care home environment.
